Postby teknoge3k » Thu Nov 20, 2014 10:24 pm

Amazon has announced via press release that they will be starting their Black Friday 2014 sales tomorrow!

They have released a list of deals that they will be putting live starting tomorrow, for the following eight days. These deals will be added as often as every 10 minutes, plus there will be three "coveted" Deals of the Day for both Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Some of the categories that we will see are electronics, toys, kitchen, books and more, with up to 60% off on some items!

Prime members have been able to take advantage of the lightning deals with early access, which will still be available for the Black Friday sales. If you are not currently a Prime member, or haven't recently had a subscription expire you can take advantage of the free 30 day trial.

I vaguely remember something called gold box deals last year. There was a little gold box icon and there would be deals only available for an hour or so. And they would give vague descriptions of the upcoming deals (not actual item names). I haven't seen that this year. Did the lightning deals replace that? Or am I remembering wrong?

This isn't just for Black Friday. They do this year-round.

So, Amazon started selling today this Kid Galaxy series of little remote controlled cars that kept selling out. They made one a Prime Early Access Deal (I believe this the first year their doing Prime Early Access) and it STILL sold out quickly.

The competition to click that Add to Cart button just got more serious since more and more people are starting to buy online.

I change my mind, GO TO THE STORES. Leave Online only!!! (So I can buy everything)
HighwayForFriday??? On Black Friday you gotta make a run to the nearest highway for your favorite deals duh!

That's not what I remember. They must have changed how the gold box thing works.

They've always had Gold Box Deals year-round. Sometimes there's only a few items, sometimes there's a lot. You are right that they've changed it though. The deals aren't as great as they used to be. Or maybe I'm just getting too old. ;)

I do know what you're talking about with the hourly specials thing. They had a chart of when they were going to do which deals during BF week, and IIRC, the page they did the hourly specials on said "Gold Box" on it. At least I think that's what you were talking about lol.

I suspect they'll probably do this again come Monday, but I could be wrong. They did start that Prime early access thing this year, so maybe they'll keep the deals on the scrolling thing instead of doing it the other way.

Found a screen capture of what I was thinking of (gotta love google). I guess it was lightning deals, but there was a gold box next to it... but see how they kept the upcoming deals a mystery? This is what I was looking for on Amazon. Guess they just don't do it that way anymore.

IIRC they started off with jewelry last year as well. The deals are pretty crappy but get better closer to Thursday.

They did have a cool mini-drone on there. :)

About every two weeks, I see a DVD bundle for a series (eg. MASH, X-Files, Downtown Abbey) at a substantial discount. They will also have a "streak" of similar items (eg. hobby boardgames, Melissa and Doug toys, K'NEX), as well as Featured Savings that last several days. No idea why it thinks I want hardware, though, since I haven't bought any through their site.

Still, some items are just padding. Nothing says the holidays like green dog toupees! 8)

I was really counting on Amazon since I was to sick to go out. What a disappointment. This is the first year that I was not able to get most of my shopping done at Amazon, I dont know whats going on with them but I really dont think its worth having Amazon Prime anymore, specially since they raised their yearly fee.

I wasn't impressed overall with Amazon this year either. I thought they'd have a chart as they did in previous years so I could get a general idea of when to get online to get things I wanted, but nope. I can't sit around all day on the internet so I missed some things. I only bought 4 things on their deals this year, and only one of those things was an actual present. I was also disappointed that they never came out with the monthly Prime service like they were supposed to. I refuse to pay $80 for something I only use 2 months out of the entire year. It's cheaper for me to just pay for shipping.
