Best Deal in the last 5 years? (2010-2014)

Postby drinkgreen » Tue Oct 27, 2015 8:50 am

We all remember the golden era of Black Friday and the absolute steals you could get away with. But those days seem to be behind us, or at least, on hold.

So since the times have changed, what do you feel was your best Black Friday deal in the last 5 years and why?
Sometimes what makes an ok deal for most will make a great deal for you!

For me, about 3 years go I believe, Target had a 40% off entire purchase deal (excluding big named items like iPhone and PS3/Xbox).
This allowed me to stock up on expensive non-expiring grocery items like Laundry Detergent, Toilet paper, Bottled water, Shampoo, and Toothpaste for the entire year.

Honestly I think the $1.99 DVDs, $3.99 BDs, and $10 TV on DVD sets I get annually are the best deals I've grabbed over the past 5 years. The absolute best deal I ever got was a set of 4 GoodYear all-season tires for $200 installed at Sears, back in '08. Those tires are still on my truck today, have since rolled over 350,000 miles and are still going strong!

I loved my $3 mini chopper! It broke in our move last year so I had to get a new one. It was a birthday present so I don't know what my family paid for it but I doubt it was $3!!

My best deal was when Walmart price matched a Radio Control Jeep...but Target's was about 1/4 of the size of the one Walmart was selling. However the details in the add all lined up. I didn't realize it wasn't the same until I was at Target and saw their sale rack...lol. That was a few years back...but my son it 10 so I think he as at least 5 when he got that.

Other than that...I am not sure. My son got the Walmart tablet deal last year that was cheap and it still work so that was a good deal.

the old record for best "get" was a pair of earrings for my wife. I got them at Kohls on black friday. they were discontinued (70%off) plus black friday (10%off) plus kohls coupons plus my meager employee discount. after all that the earrings that retailed for $495 cost me $43 out the door.

last year I beat it with a vacuum for my sister-in-law. since i worked at kohls, i was very familiar with the items offered. one day i noticed a vacuum on the shelf that i didn't recognize. I price checked it and it was $199.99 on clearance for 90% off. It must have been in the stockroom for a year or more (happens more than you think) so after the $20 kohls cash I had, it was free!
Decorating the tree

Wiring all of the lights
(Electrical contracting)
Wrapping up packages and writing out cards
(Office work, out of sight!)

NICE! A $200 vacuum for free is going to be a hard deal to break! :)

As for the item sitting in the stockroom for over a year, I used to work for Kmart and that happened quite a bit. I remember having to put clearance tags on really old stock quite a bit actually, because the original skus weren't in the system anymore.

I love good clothing deals for my kids. I generally save $100's in clothing at Kmart. I also like their Buy 1 get 1 for $1 shoe sale!
Although, they don't have much for young girls, especially dress shoes, which I don't understand! But my oldest daughter and I can always find shoes we like. I'm happy to see they have that sale again this year for BF.

In 2012, I bought my son the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (for like $100!), bought a bunch of clothes for my kids, family gifts, etc. I spent $370!, but I saved like $220+. Plus they put $70 back on my card! So that evening when we went out shopping, I think my total was around $100, and used my card & only had to pay about $30, and saved a lot of $$ off of that order too, and still got more points lol.

Kmart doesn't seem to be advertising the 'buy this item, get $5,000 in points' which disappoints me. I also haven't received any good coupons like in the past either :(

I've had a lot of other good deals, but those were the ones off the top of my head.

Most of the best deals I scored were for pricey hard drives that I jumped through several hoops to get at below wholesale from Staples, BB, etc. Nowadays they are available at those prices when on sale. :)

Frankly, I'm more situated when it comes to most of the things I used to camp out before in BF years past, and, sadly, can do better on during the year by paying attention to SlickDeals or FatWallet. Still, I hope BF or CM will always surprise me.

Seagate external HD for 50% off. Still works great today.

Who can forget the 5 dollar bottles of Tide at Walgreens?

Galaxy S3 for the wife three years ago. Runs flawlessly for me now that she's got a S6 and doesn't want a tablet.
