You're probably right about that! Every year our Walmart employees (bless their hearts) act like they have no idea what is going on. No one knows where anything is, no one knows how much anything is. They act like they showed up for work that morning and someone said, hey we're having a little sale today, it may get hectic...go stand over there.

Hahaha. This is how most at our stores are, too. I usually look around for a manager to ask a question and they are better informed.

They always have the games in the cases. What I've done the past few years is when i get there early, I find an employee and tell him I'm buying the game at normal price. Then I grab what I want, and I wait in line. The Sale price won't be until a certain time, but at least you'll avoid some long lines and get the sale price.

Usually from my experience that does not work since the ones in the case have a different Sku # than the ones for Black Friday. Not saying your wrong or anything but if it has worked for you great.

It worked for me with dvds. The ones on sale look different, sometimes they have a cheaper looking case. One year they had the new Alvin and the Chipmunk movie on sale for BF for $6, I think...anyways, I couldn't find a copy of it by the time I got to the dvds. So, I went to the dvd section in the store and found it there for i think $15. It was in a better case and looked totally different. I checked the price at one of the price checkers in the store and it showed up as $6....I thought maybe they would say something to me about it at the register, but they didn't...I got it for $6.

I've done it with one other movie too, but I can't remember which one it was.

I may try some of the games and dvds again this year and see if it works.

i did notice on the two singer machines that the savings were super huge. maybe i should stick with the $50 one to make sure i'll actually use the thing. who knows if i'll use the fancy stitches lol

thanks everyone!

I'd stick to the $50 one if you're anything like me. I had big plans for the sewing machine I bought - a couple of pillows and a surfboard bag later it's now a great dust collector.

lol That sounds like me and my daughter. We were going to start sewing so my mom gave us her very nice sewing machine that was like new. She said she paid like $300 for it. We had big plans. We made a pillow and attempted to make an apron, but never finished it. We spent more money on materials than if we had just bought a pillow and apron. We got a bunch of stuff we will never use. It's just sitting there. I'm going to give it back to my mom.

So they won't allow me to put an item on layaway tomorrow if it just happens to be in the BF ad? I don't want to put it on layaway ON BF, I want to put it on layaway tomorrow to pick up on BF.

That's pre-buying your Black Friday merchandise, which almost every store will not allow you to do. If you choose to cancel your layaway for Black Friday weekend, then your merchandise is not immediately returned to stock for you to purchase. You're not going to be able to stroll up front with your cart of stuff and pay for it then. It has to get returned to the sales floor, at which point you can purchase it.

You guys have been doing BF shopping way longer than me, but I've been on the other side of the counter in retail management for 15 years so I've seen all the tricks and know how stores should handle situations. Of course that doesn't mean they will do the "right" thing.

If a customer wants to put something on layaway and happens to pick that item up when it's on sale, that's not the customer's fault. The store should not stop the customer from taking it out of layaway since it's on sale, or force them to buy it at the full price.

As for the price matching, the Walmart Neighborhood Markets in this market are showing the lower price ad while the Supercenters are not. Same company in the same market, so I would think they should match.

the video games and dvds have special stickers on them that indicate they are black friday merchandise. they will not be out before black friday. so if you were to take a regular one off the shelf, it would not scan the same as one with the special sticker.

This is another situation where they should honor the price. Unless the ad, or a sign in the store states "specially marked UPCs only", lists the actual skus or UPCs, or has something something similar, they should honor the price no matter where it is in the store. If it's the same product, it should sell for the same sale price. Once again it's not the customer's fault if they don't communicate to the customer before they are attempting to purchase.

Most of the pallets are torn into by then and a lot of the stuff is already in carts, which will already be parked at the registers. I see people on here every single year complaining about it. Get there early, that is my best advice.

Exactly. I don't plan on getting TVs or anything, just regular stuff that will be on pallets. Since the sale starts at 8pm, I will be at the store around 4:30. If they do it the same way as last year, then I should be in line ready to check out by 6. (Assuming they allow us in the pallets at 5 again)

depends on the store. one year ours let us take dvds before the time but last year they were nutso security about it... they had people guarding them like crazy... and same with the other stuff throughout the store. you could grab it.. but if you were caught doing so you were told to put it back. obviously some people were able to get around it, grab the stuff and hide it.

i think it's dumb and would cause less chaos if they would just let people grab the stuff that's already out.

The store I go to won't let you into the pallets until the time the sale starts. Which works great for me, I get there about an hour and a half before the sale starts, take 45 minutes to locate everything on my list, swap shopping lists with my buddies so we all aren't running all over the store to get our items, and then 30-45 minutes of waiting at the pallets. I always get what I am after, but that's because of the way our store runs things. Yeah it's mad chaos when the sale starts, but the employees make lines at the pallets to avoid line jumpers and trampling. Last year they actually limited the video games to 1 title per person, which in my opinion wasn't right because no where in the ad states that I would be limited to purchasing only one Dance Central! That's the only complaint I had about Walmart last year.

And as far as asking an employee to get a game out of the case, yeah, it's not even possible to find an employee with the time to do that in my store. It's too busy to find anyone who can do that!

Ours doesn't guard anything and lets you get into things early. It was SO MUCH easier last year. No chaos, no fighting, no rushing. It was the perfect BF at Walmart

Hello ! Has anyone here shopped the Edinboro PA Walmart for BF?

I’m from southern Ontario, and my girlfriends and I make a weekend of it, and drive down to PA.

We've been doing this quite a few years now.

We leave here Thursday night and drive to the outlets in Grove City, shop there overnight, hit Walmart on the way back into Erie where we stay and shop for the weekend. We’ve always been able to get our hands on most of the soft goods we’re after ($4 PJ’s, t-shirts, sheets, etc) but obviously, a lot of the ‘good stuff’ is already gone by the time we get there.

Since Walmart is opening at 8pm this year, we’re thinking of stopping at the Edinboro Walmart first, on the way to Grove City. Does anyone have experience with BF at this location? What are the crowds like at opening?

Thanks!

Walmart, When you have questions, we have questions, followed by more questions, followed by a manager with answers

I would heed the advise of our members and emphasize caution when relying on Walmart to honor a price after an item sells out.

They act like they showed up for work that morning and someone said, hey we're having a little sale today, it may get hectic...go stand over there.

 Oh that summarizes our Walmart to a TEE! I always have my ads with me and if I have to ask a question, even of a manager, they often look at me like I've sprouted another head. Even when I bring out the ad. A few years ago, I was discussing something with a manager and the manager asked if they could look at the ad because they hadn't seen it and didn't know what was on sale.

See if my store did that I would be upset. What if you got there at 4 and they let everyone in the pallets at 3 and you missed stuff? In addition to getting there early, you also need to know how your store operates. I know 1.5 hours early is enough for my store, but definitely not for your store! Just goes to show you how different each store is!

You're exactly right. Last year they took the plastic off of things at 7:30pm I believe (for the 10pm sale). When I was standing in line waiting to checkout (by 8:00), I was texting a friend at another Walmart less than 30 minutes away. They hadn't taken the plastic off of theirs yet and said they wouldn't until 10pm.

Our WM is the exact opposite. They had the managers playing cop & yelling at people that if they saw them trying to break into a pallet early, they would be immediately escorted from the store. It was awful...had they let people line up at the registers before 10, the aisles wouldn't have been at a stand still.

That being said, I'm not sure what is done with clothing...anyone know how they do things in that section? I don't think they can put clothes on pallets, so how do they stop people from picking out clothes before 8? Or do they not really care?

I prefer the Brother machines. Bought one last year, maybe two years ago from WM. I've heard lots a negative about the newer Singer machines.
