Target iPad $100 gift card Mini $75 gift card

Postby andyw715 » Fri Nov 22, 2013 8:57 am

Question about Target's ad.

They advertise iPad Air at $479, and if you buy any iPad you get a $100 target gift card.
They also have a promotion, $75 gift card with purchase of any iPad Mini.

Soooo..

If I buy a mini do I get both cards? Any iPad, Any iPad Mini?

I am very anti-Apple but I do know an iPad, and an iPad Mini are 2 different things.

It's like saying if you buy a Toyota Corolla you get $500 cash back.
If you buy a Toyota Camry you get $1500 cash back.

If you buy a Corolla, you do not get the $1500 cash back. It's either, or.

True, but on the back of an iPad or iPad mini, it just says "iPad"

I think there is a valid argument that "any iPad" means, any model of iPad (2, Air, mini, mini w/retina).

While it might not be Target's intention, if there was a differentiation for the $100 card they should have noted so (2 or Air)

You won't get both gift cards. These type of deals just don't work that way.

To be fair, the naming situation is ambiguous. It's like having a car named "Toyota" and another named "Toyota Camry". "Buy a Toyota and get $500 cash back." Does that apply to the Toyota Camry? Target should have made the deal clearer in their ad, "when you buy any iPad Air or iPad 2".

I believe you will get a $75 gift card when you buy the mini and you will also get a $100 with a ipad purchase. I also believe you could get someone else to stand in line with you let them get the mini and hand them the gift card you receive on the first item and let them use it on their item. I haven't done that at target but Wal-Mart let me a couple of years ago.

i think someone said that gift card trick worked for them at target in past years too. that is an idea!
(i just wouldn't count on the gift card working and think of it as a pleasant surprise if it does)

I don't disagree. But.

"any iPad" to me is any iPad.

I'm sure there are some people that could argue this with local Target management and walk away with $175 in target gift cards with the purchase of a mini.

I wouldn't need to bother with the gift card razzle dazzle at checkout, as I go to Target often.

Oh, and I don't own a Toyota.

In iPad is an iPad, and iPad mini is an iPad mini. These terms are not interchangeable, no matter how much you want them to be. The problem with most semantic arguments is that they are usually grounded in a known or unknown false assumption (here thinking the term "iPad" is a generic term of anything with the name "iPad" in it...the statement that all iPads come with a hundred dollar gift card means all iPad models (iPad 2, iPad with Retina Display, and iPad Air) come with the gift card). There is no rational Target manager in the world who would give you two cards for a purchase of one iPad mini.
