Black Friday & Price Matching

Postby bfnewbie » Thu Nov 07, 2013 10:28 am

Does anyone know if Walmart and other stores price match on Black Friday? Does the sales start times have to match up, etc?

Thanks!

It's a YMMV situation.

The Walmart where I live won't be this year according to the manager I asked. It has to be the same make/model/SKU/in stock/within 50 miles/etc to get it price matched and the odds of all that happening is slim. Although they did last year as long as you had an ad. On the other hand, I've heard of others having no problem getting their local WM to price match.
Best bet would be to call/stop at the WM, ask for management (be sure to remember their name so you can refer back to them if needed), and flat out ask them.

yep - go and ask the store you plan to go to. a lot of stores do things differently no matter what their policy says.

From my previous years 99% of the items from other ads Wal-Mart says "That's a different model than what we carry"

Don't buy anything, with the model numbers scratched off?

I've price matched at Wal-Mart, but its usually just movies, CDs, video games or toys.

I would definitely ask a store manager, because as said before, not all Walmarts are created equal.

However, I have never had a problem price-matching at Walmart at any of the stores I've been to, and I've been to at least 10 different stores since they started the price-matching thing. I posted tips under the "Suggestions" board in the topic about ad matching.

Since it seems like you are new to price matching, my biggest piece of advice would be to not even attempt to try to price match larger electronics (TVs, Computers, Laptops, Gaming Systems, etc.). As mentioned before, Walmart tends to have their own SKUs for things like that, so they can cover their butts and not have to match another store's deep discount and lose money.

That being said, the easier things to price match are toys, movies, video games, and I've even done it with XBOX Live Gold membership cards (did that last year - the cashier didn't like me too much for it, but she did it anyway). Grocery-type items, such as food, cleaning supplies etc. can also be price matched, as long as they are a name brand.

One last thing to keep in mind - Walmart will NOT honor percentages off or "buy one, get one" deals from other stores. Whatever you are matching has to have a solid price, like $5.99 or $23.47. And always bring your ad, maybe even a duplicate. I make them cut whatever I'm matching out of the other store's ad at the register (I carry my own scissors too) since I don't want them keeping my ad. But some stores will keep it no matter how hard you fight them on it.

Good luck to you, and welcome to the forums! :)

EDIT TO ADD: I just saw you also asked about store times matching up too. And yes, the store has to be open for Walmart to honor that price. As an example, say Target has Battlefield 4 for PS3 on sale for $19.99, and they open at 8pm on Thanksgiving night. Toys R Us has the new Nintendo 2DS on sale for $99.99, and they open at 5pm Thanksgiving Day. Let's say Walmart opens at 6pm. While you're checking out at Walmart, you could price match the TRU item, but not the one from Target, because Target doesn't open for another 2 hours yet. Hope that helps!

Thank you! My WM is pretty lax on price matching, they will even do B1G1 free, and I'm only planning on price matching toys, so I think I will be good. Thanks for the advice!!!

with all the extreme couponing going on lately some stores are starting to get picky with what they will do.
always best to ask and not assume!

and get something in writing if you can ;)
