BE Careful!!

Postby Alias33 » Mon Oct 20, 2008 9:35 pm

I hear alot of you talking about Circuit City, well CC is almost on the verge of bankruptcy. They are saying that they may shut down like a hundred or more stores before Christmas. There stock is like .20 cent per share on the stock market and it is getting worse for CC. Be careful if you buy a CC gift card b/c if they go into bankruptcy they do not have to accept your gift card while in bankruptcy. Alot of people do not know that. They find out very quickly if they go into a CC store and try to use it. So be careful buying one for a Christmas gift. They do not have to give you your money back. I know it sounds crazy but the bankruptcy laws allow for it to happen while in Bankruptcy. Also if you get one free as part of a deal i would use it right away. It would also be terrible if you buy one in your area and they go out of business as part of the 100+ stores that might go out of business. Then you have to wait until you go to another CC in a city that does have a CC that's if they even will accept it anyway. Happy BF all.

I have always disliked CC, If they go it wont bother me any.

good tip about not buying any gift cards from them.

If they go under then you can expect thousands of people out of work along with no competition for Best Buy.

Just be aware that a lot of companies are going under. Gift Cards and much should be bought it small amounts rather then large amounts. Man the economy is doing so badly! :?

Linens n' Things for example. As soon as the liquidators came in, no coupons we're honored. If CC closes, BB will get all the business, and that means I'll have to camp out even earlier to be first in line...

I bought a tv last year at CC on BF. It died and I just received an extended warranty last chance in the mail. Should I not accept this since they may not be able to back it up?

Good advice on the cards this year. I think I am just going to stay away from them for anyplace.

Actually, just yesterday the Wall Street Journal announced that CC is considering closing 150 stores in an attempt to NOT file for Chapter 11. Either way thousands of jobs are going to be lost (it's inevitable). Their stock has gone from a 52 week high of $8.35 to an all time low of $0.35 and their future does not look promising. At this time I would be concerned about any long term warranties and/or gift cards.

I just answered my own question. You may use CC giftcards online and they have no expiration date. Thanks for the heads up though...

You would still have to pay them.
