For the first time in a long time, I slept in on Black Friday. That is, I got up at a reasonable hour and went shopping at around 8:00 am.

On Wednesday, I got up early for Kmart's Thanksgiving Day sale, getting there at 6:00 am. Unfortunately, it was a lesser Kmart that didn't have sale items stocked, so I left with a $2 pillow. On the way to work, I stopped in at a better Kmart that had the thing I wanted, and I got 4x pairs of $2.50 headphones.

On Thursday, I stayed at home, cooked turkey, and watched football. No shopping.

On Friday, I got up and went shopping at 8 am. I went to Five Below and bought 3x $5 sports team-themed gnomes for a yankee swap gift. I went to Guitar Center and looked at the ukuleles (on sale for $26), but I didn't buy anything. I went to Home Depot, and to my surprise they still had the $1 pointsettias, so I bought one, along with some $4 WD-40 and a $5 wreath. I then went to the mall and walked around a bit looking at Target, Sears, the Apple Store, Olympia Sports, etc. At around 10 am I went to Costco and got my free cookbook, along with some bananas, broccoli, and ranch dressing (about $13). Then I went to Dollar Tree and bought 2x $1 rolls of gift wrap. I stopped in at Staples and looked at the Black Friday computer monitors still available, but I didn't get anything. I then decided to take a trip to the new Merrimack Premium Outlets to see what it was like. I walked around a bit. The Corningware outlet store had a good deal (three glass mixing bowls with lids for just $10) but I didn't get anything. I stopped in at the Kitchen Collection store and found the $10 Accusharp knife sharpener I had been looking for, so I bought it. After that I went home. It was around 3 pm or so. At 8:30 pm I went back out to Guitar Center to look at the ukuleles again, but I didn't buy anything. I then went back to the mall and looked around at Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, and the Apple Store again, but I didn't buy anything.

All told, I spent about $62 Thursday and Friday.

I got there at 4pm, stopped at Sheetz on my way and grabbed a burger. Got a front parking spot, ate my burger and went in. I scouted the score and found where everything was. At 6:15, I (along with everyone else) started loading our buggies with everything that we wanted. I ran around the store a few times getting everything, but then I went to stand in line for a trampoline ticket. I got my ticket, and ran up front. They let us check out at 7:10. I checked out, went around back and got my trampoline and then came home. I got home, ate a bowl of macaroni and cheese and was finished eating by 8:06. It was GREAT!!!

As I was leaving, there were a ton of people walking in, driving in. I heard them complaining as usual. I've learned you have to be there early if you want to get things. I got everything that I wanted except 2 video games which they just didn't have. It was fantabulous. I'll go sleep now for 3 hours then get up and head to Roanoke and hit Toys-R-Us and a few other places that are non-essential. Walmart gets 10 out of 5 stars from me this year!

Not me......my Walmart pulled everything off the floor in 2 hours. I was WTF!! :x

We did Staples. Worst Black Friday experience ever. I can't believe this kind of savagery goes on in the name of commercialism.

We camped out starting Monday afternoon for the Omnitech shredder and the BOGO copy paper. We started out at fifth in line, and by yesterday afternoon the line was about 60 people. Everything seemed to be going fine all week, and folks were real kind and considerate to each other. We sang songs, did chants, and even had a few waves throughout the 3+ days in line. The whole group was a real pleasure and very considerate of each other.

Fast forward to this morning. Sometime around 4:30, a group of middle-aged men showed up and walked straight to the front door. They were all wearing black t-shirts with bright green letters reading "It's Black Friday...GO F*CK YOURSELF" on the back. The whole line began yelling "to the back!" and "there's a line!" The guys claimed to be checking the store hours, but they then conveniently "struck up a conversation" with the people in the front of the line. This "conversation" lasted long enough that when the store personnel came out at 4:50 to rope us all off, they assumed these idiots were first in line and left them there. Several of us in the next 10-20 people protested, but we were advised we could either "pipe down" or be removed by the hired security.

So now it's 4:58, and the crowd is getting very anxious. The guys in the front of the line, the jerkoff line jumpers, are looking in through the sliding glass door and doing a bit of pounding/knocking on the glass. Several of us were discussing the irony of the fact that the latest arrivals jumped the line and were now impatiently banging on the door. Further the irony with the fact that the employees and security were doing NOTHING about it.

As 4:59 hit, the jerks crossed the line and cost us all. Three of them apparently believed 5 a.m. had already come and gone, and were screaming through the glass for the personnel to "open this f*cking door!" Suddenly, they all seemed to act in concert, and they began slamming their full weight against the sliding glass doors with their shoulders.

<thud>
<thud>
<CRASH!>

The glass doors suddenly gave way and 2 of the guys went sprawling in through the doorway onto the floor. From my vantage point, I could see stunned employees trying to figure out how/if to react. Before they could, one of these guys suddenly hopped up off the glass shards all over the floor, ran toward a random employee and threw a haymaker, blasting this guy right in the beak. The Staples employee never knew what hit him, and crumpled to the ground immediately. The elated customer sprinted away back toward the area where one might find computers, printers, etc. Extremely bizarre.

We don't really know what happened next. The second of the two guys who went through the door was rounded up by security, and all the rest of us were forced to wait outside while the first guy was apparently apprehended and arrested. When they led him out, he was shirtless. He was snapping his teeth at his shoulders like some sort of a rabid animal. The rest of that group was finally escorted away and the rest of us, many of whom had literally waited in soiled Depends since Monday, were allowed to enter the store. We were disappointed to find the shredder required a MIR, and the paper was only 80 brightness copy paper and the BOGO deal was limited to 6 per customer. My friend and I were deemed "1 customer" by a smartass little college kid, who gave us a coy smirk and said we were welcome to wait in line again if we wanted more.

We left and got breakfast, and on our way back out of the area we saw workers replacing the front door. The word is the guy was actually there to get shredders to resell. Disgusting behavior, and he and his friends ruined it for all of us.

Never again at Staples on Black Friday.

I have to laugh! Are you serious! Staples!? Wow! Just WOW! :shock:

Before I went to dinner Thanksgiving evening....I had purchased almost everything I wanted online. The doorbuster items were not available online for Walmart or any of the places really. But, I got everything I wanted from Target online. Got most of everything I wanted from Sears online, and got 2 things I stumbled on at Walmart online.

However, I had to feel BF so around 9pm stopped in Target and it was 20 rows deep wrapped around each row. Even if I had found a few small things I wanted, I would not have waited in that line (I already got my big ticketed items online and they had already shipped). We then went over to Sears. It was busy but I was looking for the outdoor deer etc that was not available online. I ended up not liking them so bought 2 cute stockings and a lighted bell. Then said to hubby let's check out the mall Walmart. As we were walking towards it we could see the mob. It was kind of funny. People wanted to bust through the front entrance (mall entrance) but there was heavy security and the had a line they were allowing in. We followed the line out the door around the building and almost around a second time. I laughed and said...they can have their $1.48 towels, no thank you. So we walked through Sears back to our car and I thought, oh I could pick up my order I did online a few hours ago. So, I did. Then we went to another Walmart that is a stand alone store just to see how crazy it was. It was like a ghost town! I couldn't believe it! The workers were bringing out the racks and putting everything away! I was like, wth! Why are they putting away the items before they sell! I looked for the towels.......they were so gross, not worth it. I looked for the little Rival chopper and mixer....couldn't find any, only the crockpots. But did find a nice red mixer, oyster I believe for $12.00. I was tired and wanted to go home. So we did. I slept until 11am. I had to get a desk and had been pricing them for the last 2 weeks and decided to go with the one at Office Depot. So we ran over there around 1pm Friday, picked up the dest, got a 32g scan disk thing for $14, and found a $50 copy, scan, wireless, fax, and printer all-in-one.

My son's were going to Big 5 at 5am so I asked them to run by JCPenny's for me to grab the Cooks electric skillet and mixer. They got there just as the doors were opening, got upstairs, grabbed the skillet and the mixers were gone.....within 2 minutes (they said). They saw all these people with Cooks and they thought, there must be something to this stuff, lets get a second skillet, turned around and they were all gone! LOL.....got my skillet though. I got one last year around 1pm in the afternoon, however, my son got his wife a cheap walmart one and I said to him, no you can't give her that one. Give her mine. Took me the whole year to get one for me again! LOL I was going to go look later to see if they put more out but never went back out. Did grocery shopping today and putting up the desk.

Today the walmart items showed up on my doorstep! Pretty good. I never have shopped online for BF but it was ok. Target made me pay for shipping. But it guaranteed me to get what I wanted.

Glad it is over. Did not like the early openings and Walmarts antics. Oh well. Unitl next year......

This is the first year I did most of my shopping online. We went out around 11:30 just to see what we could find. Kohls was wrapped around the whole store. Target had some things I wanted but the line was throughout the whole store. Not worth my time. Was able to get some things from Sears and few other stores in the mall. Got the 59.00 tree at Home Depot but just barely. Thankfully my husband is strong because some guy tried to pull it out of his hands. Went to Lowes bought a washer and dryer then to Joanns to get some wrapping paper. My final stop was Pet smart to get presents for the pets and eight dollar litter.

Basically it was a lame Black Friday. I imagine everything will be online from here on out and start on the day before Thanksgiving. There's just no real reason to go out anymore.

Thanks to the early BF online sales and Amazon lightning deals, I'd gotten my big ticket items before BF. I didn't have anything I needed to get in the stores, but went out because we always do it as a girls day out. (Although this year my 15 year old son wanted to go along as our "muscle". I took him and he was very helpful...He's 6'4'' and rather quick.)

The security and line control were terrific this year. I didn't see any line jumpers thanks to store control. All the girls got what they came for. My son made some extra cash because people were paying him here and there to run for items....who knew he'd prove so useful? I had fun with the girls. We did manage to embarass my son in Claires by wandering the store in tiaras and boas, and in Spencers because he said "parents just shouldn't be in that hippy pie shop." Can't wait until next year!

The two big items we bought online Thursday were a Wii and the Nikon at Target. Friday morning we left around 8am and hit Target, Old Navy, Home Depot, JoAnn's (big mistake!) We had a gift card for Gander Mountain and my youngest needs new snow boots. The boots on sale didn't fit her feet but hubby got some gun supplies. We ended at Costco.

Yesterday, because of the fiasco at JoAnn's, I ended up going to another JoAnn's (Despite assuring me over the phone that they had the fabric I wanted, they did not have it!) Then we went to Cabela's. On the way home we stopped at a smaller Target and oddly enough they had the pajamas, towels, the Brave game for $10, and the Tinkerbell movie for my youngest for $13. I was really surprised they still had these items. I really wanted some of those soft $10 throws but the lady in the checkout line ahead of me must have bought up all of the ones remaining because she had two carts full of throws and towels. I missed out on those throws at every Target, but I knew if I headed out late I would miss deals. I'm okay with that. We hit an outlet mall on the way home as well. I got some great deals at the Bath and Body outlet, as well as Old Navy and Toys r us.

bertaha wrote:I started at 6 this morning. Didn't find the big kid blanket sleepers that I wanted, but got some Joe Boxer PJ's that were 50% off for not that much more. The kids both said earlier this year they wanted the Bear of the Year at Wal-Mart and K-Mart had theirs for 50% off. I didn't see the slippers I wanted for my MIL so I went a completely different direction for her. I got the Frosty, Rudolph and Santa movies with the free package of Oreos. The movies rang up at $9.99 instead of the $5 sales price, so I went back to customer service after checking the receipt in my car and had the price adjusted. I hadn't planned on getting my son shoes there, but since he needs new tennis shoes and they were buy one get one free I got him 2 pair of tennis shoes (figuring he will destroy them pretty quickly as he does all of his shoes. I had a SYWR coupon for 10,000 points if I bought wrapping paper so I bought a roll. I got a $5 gift card to be used next week for spending more than $50.00. All in all not a bad experience. I will be going back out to K-Mart tonight at 8 and then to Target from there. I plan on a trip to Build-a-Bear to get the gifts for the star tree that my kids picked up this past weekend at our open house in town.

bigevv was in K-Mart as you were entering. I also heard you heard about the fight there. It's funny that is all she talked about Thanksgiving how she stood up to the women and they were about to get into a fight. LOL

When the event began you should have grabbed one before the other person had a chance. I know our Walmart only had SIX of these bikes. I bought 1 (I got the first one), and then a few minutes later I saw a guy with 3 of them in his buggy. That only left 2 for whoever.

Well, another BF has come and gone. After researching, mapping out, coming up with a plan and then finally executing it, I have to say, it went really really well. We have a newer Walmart in our area that always seems to be well stocked and about as organized as it can be in the made rush of black Friday. It's always high on my list and never dissapoints. I scored everything I wanted with the exception of the sheet sets. Apparently they are worth more than gold the way they flew off the pallet! At least that is what my husband said as we split up and he did small appliances and sheets and towels and I did the video games. After the 8pm round, we headed to Target which was a huge waste of time. The check out lines were clear to the rear of the store so I wont be doing that again. After that, we stopped back at Walmart for the 10pm sales and then drove by hhgregg. The lines were crazy so we didnt even bother to stop. We were home by 11:30, so we were was able to get some sleep before heading back out at 4am for Home Depot's sale. They really surprised me in a good way. We were in and out and back home before the sun was up. We saved by far the most $ there! This year I shopped at Lowe's online on Thanksgiving day for the third year and scored big and had it delivered for free. I actually had it waiting on my porch on Saturday afternoon too. I love good deals and as long as it's not dangerous, I'm all about getting in the rush of it. We came, we bought, were almost done shopping ! :)

The boyfriend and I prioritized a steam cleaner as our #1 item and were planning to hit Walmart for the $76 Bissell until Amazon threw a wrench in my plans! They had a $76 Hoover lightning deal on Monday, so I tried to hurry up and do some research re: Hoover vs. Bissell, text the bf to see what he wanted to do, etc. By the time we decided to pull the trigger, the Hoover was sold out and I was upset about it (I admit, though I am a relative BF veteran, had no frame of reference for rates of lightning deal sell outs...you'd think the name would have clued me in). By that point our online research indicated the Bissell steam cleaner was no good, so I ended up buying a different model Hoover on Kohls.com Wednesday night for $140 with $30 Kohl's cash.

My brother and I have gone BF shopping together for nearly 10 years (we now alternate since odd years we are at SO's family for Thanksgiving) and we now have my boyfriend and his wife in tow. I was initially a little upset that sales were starting Thursday night, figuring it would cut into family time, but have since realized that it actually was better, because we were able to shop longer and it was family time in itself with all of us going.

We started at Target because the sister-in-law wanted a $25 knife set she missed out on two years ago. Got there around 8:30, about 250 people in line, and were in the store just a few minutes after 9. Split up, boys went to towels/blankets, girls went to kitchen then sporting goods. Collectively, we grabbed the knife set, an $18 pyrex set, a $29 Ninja masterprep, a $49 airbed, a $19 king sized fuzzy blanket, a bunch of $2 towels, and a few DVDs. Out of the store by 9:30.

Off to Walmart which was a DISASTER. Had to park across the street (6 lane highway) and the crowd inside was shoulder-to-shoulder. I wanted a $9 crock pot, but they were sold out by the time we got there so we got one for $19. Big item there was a $39 printer for the brother and SIL, which we got after some difficulty tracking down. This Walmart didn't offer store maps online or in person, so that added to the crowds made it completely impossible to find anything. We lucked out that the 15 photo frame set and 5 candle sets we wanted were straddling the printers, so we got them as well and just went to check out to get the hell out of there. Took 30-45 minutes to check out. Our next stop was Kohl's, which was across the street from Walmart, but it was only shortly after 11 at this point and we didn't really need anything at Kohl's worth lining up for. We headed back to the parents' house and unloaded the car, grabbed a piece of pie and some coffee, and went back to Kohl's to get there around 11:50. There was a short line, but we got inside soon and grabbed the pillows and blankets we were after, plus a bonus electric carving knife for my mom since she'd nearly electrocuted herself earlier in the evening trying to use her broken 40 year-old electric knife to carve the turkey.

Best Buy was next, where I primarily wanted to $10 skullcandy headphones. We also got a couple of DVDs/Blurays/video games. Best Buy was honestly pretty tame compared to previous years. Old Navy is in the same plaza as Best Buy, so we went there next and all got a few clothing items. Took 30+ minutes to check out there. By this point it was 3:30 and we were debating calling it a night or continuing. I wanted to get the Martha Stewart Christmas tree at Home Depot as a gift for the brother and SIL, so I decided to continue on, and the rest joined me after we unloaded the car again at the parents' house.

Went to Macy's to kill some time - nothing of interest there. Headed to Home Depot at about 4:30 to find they had set up coffee and donuts for all of us - much needed at that point! We were second in line, got the tree, and checked out by 5:15. Went back to the mall to check out a few stores. SIL got boots at Sears for $20. Got home at 7:30 and crashed.

The bf and I recently adopted a puppy, so I was back up at 10:30 to take care of her. At that point the parents were up, so I regaled them with our BF tale. At that point I also booted up my computer to check out Amazon's deals and saw the Hoover steam cleaner I'd missed out on on Monday was going live in about an hour. SIL and I took off (somewhat risky move) to Old Navy to buy clothes for the boys who were still asleep. Got back about 7 minutes before the sale went live and got the steam cleaner for $76 with $7 from a leftover Amazon gift card; intend to return the Kohl's one once it ships.

Still glued to Amazon's lightning deals even though I have no money and don't need anything. I may be an addict.

swung by Wally Mart on Saturday afternoon. They still had $78 Wiis in abundance,, $39 Ninjas (bought one) Also had plenty of the Sleep clothes, jeans, mens shirts and Shop Vacs left over from 8 PM Thursday night.

Looked like the TVs were the hottest item all along

The wife sent me over to Target to get an Air Hockey table for the kids, that was still on the shelf and $55 for Black Friday (This was Saturday AM) Most of the stores we visited were very slow.

Only place on BF tht I ound a crowd was Penney;s and that was 8 PM at night

Pretty much done with all the Christmas shopping, and again most of it was online and the best deals were online THURSDAY

Still not feeling totally excited about the shopping season. The thrlll of bargain hunting just does not appeal to me as much since my "Conversion"
However, I am entertained by your experiences, I am glad most of you were able to get the things you desired.

Well, now that all is officially said and done....

It was a mediocre BF for me. I don't want to say "worst" only because I had a lot of good times unrelated to shopping. A nice break from school and work, quality time with family (dogs included of course) and a great meal! :)

My best deals were from Kohls - got several toys for my students at school, and a few little things for me. Got some cute dog blankets for just a few dollars. Some of the items arrived today and one of the picture frames was broken. :( Probably not worth sending back, and Kohl's is over an hour from me, so I guess I take a loss on that one.

I got a few other things, but nothing too outstanding. A children's book and some binders from lightning deals (woohoo!)

The one thing I REALLY wanted was the V-Readers for my kids at school. Got to Walm at 7:30 for the 8:00 sale (y'all know that's not like me at all- that's just how unmotivated I was by the whole thing this year.) Of course they were long gone. I did get the paper jam guitars - not bad said the kids still like "big" presents!

Well, that's about it. Already back to the daily routine, struggling to keep up with school work and work-work! Looking forward to Christmas break, regardless of the fact that I only have like 10% of my shopping done. YIKES! Here's to hoping the "new Black Friday" is somewhere around the corner!!!!
