netbook in laptop's clothing

Postby tmc8080 » Wed Nov 11, 2009 4:53 am

a Celeron 900 processor is junk.. even the 1.xghz atom processors are better spec than that.
keep in mind what you will be doing with this so-called laptop.. not much... websurfing, solitaire, and maybe a few apps that "smart phones" do... but not much more.. shouldn't be $249.. maybe $199.
FYI a 4gb ssd drive is about the same price as a 160gb hard drive and yet the netbooks/laptops are priced $50-$150 higher just because... fools pay the higher price. IMO, all the laptop deals kind stink this year.. there are a few clearance exceptions for latops that have 802.11g instead of 802.11n which are in the $350-$550 range.. but you must compare specs very carefully to see if it fits your needs (and is a good deal). a 802.11n usb adapter can be had for under $30 so paying $50+ for that feature isn't a good idea, besides you'll get better signal strength with an external usb stick on a cable-- that you can move around than on an internal wifi adapter anytime.

at around $499+, not only laptops should have all the good specs (multicore processor, dvd drive, 6+cell battery).. it should have video-output (either vga, hdmi, or svideo) as well.

I just got one online. It'll work nicel for what my son needs it for. Just FYI, if you try to go to paypal and get the extra $20 off..it gives you an error. I had to pay directly using my CC.

Well, my husband just went and got one from the store. Best buy doesn't open until 10 and the ad online said 5 minimum per store. He got there around 9:10 and no one was there. He said by the time the store opened there were only 3 people waiting for it including himself. He said the store had about 20. He also said that many employees who had not known about it were quickly interested and were probably buying one for themselves.

I know this laptop will likely be this price again, or even lower, but we have been looking for a $300 or less laptop for a while. We need something inexpensive to bring with us on photography jobs. My husband and I were both mgrs at Compusa for a long time, so we are computer literate and you can't beat this price. Sure it only has 2gb of ram, but it is expandable to 4 which is cheap enough to do if we find it excruciatingly slow. We couldn't build it cheaper if we wanted to. It will serve our purpose and I won't have to fight the crowds on black friday to get one.

The wife picked up 2 of these today! They said limit 1 per customer, but I she told them we have twin boys (which we do), and they let us have 2.

The article doesn't say that's "regular" price..it says that BB is "offering" it for that price..which is the lowest laptop price yet...and BB is "offering" it on a ONE DAY deal.

I got one in store at 3pm today and they had about 15 left! People were buying laptops all over the place, but it was like no one knew about that Acer. I'm excited because it seems like a better deal than the one Staples will have on BF, and I don't camp out at Best Buy. :)

Modems are used for dial-up connections.

I have a modem and I have a broadband connection
The biggest lie I tell myself is... "I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it."

no way, gotta disagree with your assessment...

The celeron 900 is better than the Atoms:

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup. ... 40+2.20GHz

if you want to say the Atom has better power managament? sure.. but performance wise, this celeron>>>atom.

and this has WirelessN, Video-out, Windows 7 Premium 64-bit... FOR $250!!!!! oh and has a disc drive, something that the netbooks in this price range don't have either

GREAT deal for those that can get it. Plus you don't even have to camp out on BF or anything!

I had my mom pick one up for me because stores around me were sold out. She went to the front desk and asked for it since she's not tech savvy and could've wandered around for a long time looking for it. The girl at the desk told her they were in the back and not on the floor anyway. When they brought it up for her, the guy brought two. They tried to upsell her one with AV and some other stuff installed for $70 more. She went for the $249 deal because I can load it up myself.

I think this is a great deal! And the previous poster is correct - the processor is definately not junk.

I wasn't able to get to a BB store today... I wonder if they will have any left tomorrow and if they do if they will sell at the 249. Fingers crossed.
