Shopper X wrote:FYI, you all have inspired me to cook the turkey the traditional way: whole roast turkey. I went out today and bought a disposable foil pan. The turkey is now sitting in the pan in my refrigerator, drying out the skin in preparation for tomorrow's bake.

(I poached and ate the giblets today.)

So how did it go?

My turkey went well. I just roasted it on a rack in the foil pan with an initial baste of oil and salt and pepper. Started the oven at 450 F and then baked the turkey at 325 F for about 3 hours. It reached 170 F in the thigh and 180 F in the breast, a bit overcooked.

I've been giving my Kitty leftover turkey since Thanksgiving. She's been full and happy
