States most and least at risk for Black Friday violence

Postby Shopper X » Wed Nov 22, 2017 10:05 am

The people at Reviews.org looked at FBI crime and internet search statistics and compiled a list of states with the most and least chance for Black Friday violence:

https://www.reviews.org/high-risk-state ... -violence/
Highest risk of Black Friday violence:
1. Tennessee
2. Arkansas
3. Alabama
4. Louisiana
5. Nevada

Lowest risk of Black Friday violence:
1. Maine
2. Vermont
3. Connecticut
4. New Hampshire
5. Rhode Island

Their site also has pie charts showing the stores with the most past Black Friday violence (Walmart) and the types of incidents seen overall (tramplings and shootings).

It seems to be split by north and south. Maybe once the temperature drops enough it just inhibits violence :P

Well that's great. Mine's not on either list, but it's supposed to be in the 90s here the rest of the week. Should I still venture out?

I think the data goes back to far. I'd be interested to see what the statistics are for the more recent nighttime openings. Back in 06, they were still early morning openings, and if I am not mistaken, most were not in the wee hours of the morning either.

I think the risk is far greater now simply for the amount of people that come out. I've witnessed one fight (but a few heated arguments) and one very "rowdy" crowd until the night openings. In the last few years, I've witnessed so much stuff, it's crazy. Mostly at Walmart

And my little ol' state of DE is there all bright pink in a cloud of blue. We're 13th. Yay! (maybe? )

One problem with the opening times being early, is the groups of teenagers that come out just to "hang out" and try to look cool. They end up causing problems.

There was a fight Thanksgiving night at a mall in Alabama, #3 state with the most risk for violence. It resulted in the mall being closed early:

No action in Gatorville Florida last night. Walmart, Target and Best Buy were busy but no acts of violence that I witnessed
