42-inch 1080p LCD HDTV for less than $200?

Postby Shopper X » Sat Oct 20, 2012 10:31 am

The IHS iSuppli market research company says that, “While consumer electronics brands and retailers always offer bargains for Black Friday, this year is likely to bring extremely steep price declines." Specifically, they predict that we might see 42-inch 1080p LCD HDTVs for less than $200!

Do people think this is true and that we'll see 42" TVs for $200? It does seem that we're in a product lull this season. There is no "hot new item" to grab people's attention like in previous years. (In previous years, the "hot new items" were tablets, netbooks, flat-screen TVs, laptop computers, GPS devices, Bluray DVD players, MP3 players, digital picture frames, and regular DVD players). Instead, there are just the same old products we've seen in previous years. So, perhaps the logical conclusion is "deep discounts on existing products".

I'm still using my old, 27-inch CRT television from 2001. I seem to recall buying it for $300. I sure wouldn't mind replacing it with a 42" flatscreen TV for just $200.

That would be a hard deal to pass up but we have updated every room. However, my in laws still have a box television but my husband built them a laptop for this christmas. Yet, if there is a 32"(that's all their entertainment center will fit) LCD under 200 I might spring for it.

I have purchased 2 different 32" for 199 this year already so I think having a 32" under 200 is a sure thing. I think the 42" will be more around the 229-279 range

If the 42" is under $200 I will get 2 of them just to have. Great price.

I am typically an optimistic person, but I just don't see this deal happening. Maybe (and that's a strong maybe) one will come in at $249, but I wouldn't even bet on that if it were me. And no, I didn't just randomly split Bexx's price guess.

LOl, will Westinghouse make another Target comeback with another $298 special. I can see LCD's going lower than ever with the advent of LED flat screens.

NBC News predicts that there will be a 40 to 42-inch, name-brand LCD TV for just $189. (A general topic TV prices was also posted here.)

On a tangent, there's a new Hisense brand of TVs now being sold in the US. The company already makes Best Buy's private-label Insignia and Dynex brands, but it sounds as if the Hisense label TVs will be more high-end. The article also has other interesting information, like the fact that Vizio televisions use contract-manufacturing as opposed to having their own factories.

For those of you who don't think this will happen, remember that Best Buy did this last year. They had a 40" Sharp for $199. If they've done it before, they can do it again.

We had some 40" here for about $185 so I would think that it is entirely possible to see some bigger ones this year. I also wouldn't be surprised if some of the smaller ones go for less than $100 or close to it.

I see it happening but I think it will be a very basic model and might be a junk brand.

Thanks for posting this. Here is last year's $200 Sharp 42" 1080p HDTV. It was a "minimum 10 per store" item at Best Buy:

However, it looks like a lot of the other 42" television deals were about $400 or so. To the original poster, you can meow use the BFAds.net search function to search last year's deals:

It would be nice also for a, say, 24 inch LCD to be at the $70 to $80 threshold.

Camped out at best buy last year and got the 42" for $199 and five 24" for $79 each. All work great and looking forward to getting another 42" or larger for a steep deal!! So glad to be back everyone!!! :D
