Hiding your 'loot' from the kids?

Postby azerigold » Fri Nov 25, 2011 4:19 am

Where do you hide stuff from the kids?

I'll wrap our stuff later today since my kids are NOSY <5, 10 & 12>. My 12 yr old was with me last night so she knows what I bought, but doesn't think any of it is hers, heh...

SO where did I put it as my temporary hiding spot?

In the dryer!

The stuff I bought yesterday morning at Kmart is in my bathroom in the towel closet and the top closet where I put extra sheets, etc. they will never guess

LOL I wish I had a creepy basement to hide stuff in! But my 5yo isn't scared of the dark so I dunno... hehe ;)

I filled the dryer up! I ended up having to hide another large bag of stuff in the cabinet where I keep my small appliances, hehe...
My 5yo daughter slept in my bed with her daddy last night, so once she gets up I'll have the kids go in my sons room, and I'll move all the 'loot' into my bedroom, lock the door and WRAP, cram it all in my closet until we put the tree up.

Kids know the rules after that - if it's wrapped, and you try to peek, back to the store it goes!

If you (or somebody you can trust/older child/) have a bed like this

You can lift the mattress/box spring and hide it under there.

This is usually where I hide candy.

2 yo no problem. 5 yo not into searching yet. 22 yo not a problem, lives out of state :) Me, not a problem cause wife normally messes up and uses my account to order things and I get the order emails :) We just wrap them as we get them and stash in the guest room closet.

My 10 yr old son and 5yo daughter are the nosiest ones, my 12yo isn't too bad about it.
I told them I put the stuff out in the shed, and they went out there to look LOL Then I told them I put it in the trunk of their dads car - he's at work
They went into my bedroom to look - first place they always look is closet and under my bed.
They gave up and went back to watching tv.
Of course I haven't bought their 'big' surprises yet other than a Wii. I will get each of their big surprise toys next week.

Wouldn't a better solution be to just buy a big steamer trunk or storage chest and lock the presents inside?

Nah, it's too much fun hiding them and making them guess LOL Of course I plan to wrap them in a little while after DH gets home from work - want to show him a few things I bought ;)

We'll probably put the tree up tonight, and we'll put everything under the tree.

Cause well...I need my dryer LOL

Unless you put a combo lock on that, if I was the kid I'd just wait til my parents fell asleep found the key and looked. *shrug*

Just got back from BF shopping, and everything is under a blanket on the bed. I will be sleeping on the other side ;-)

Later tonight, after my nap, it will get stashed and/or wrapped.

I moved everything and put it on my bed and covered it. I told my son where I hid the stuff and he said he would never have thought of it! LOL!
I don't mind telling him cause I can usually always find a new hiding spot each year.
I WAS planning to hide it in the deep freezer since we had emptied it and turned it off, but Wed my husband got a lot of deer meat from his brother, so we had to turn the freezer back on! Figures!

We have lots of tubs that hold our christmas decorations and trees. When the decorations come out and go up, we fill the empty tubs with gifts. Our daughter sees these tubs in the garage all the time so she doesn't think anything of them.

I also unpack Christmas decorations and repack the boxes with the gifts...then mostly shove them back in attic cause 11 year old is snoopy...but won't go there.
