Just think of the interest you could have gotten off that money all year, but instead you let the government borrow it for free.

I'll file my taxes in April. I'm never in a rush to do them. We usually get around $6500 back though.

We generally get ~1,000-2,000 back. Haven't even gotten the software yet, still waiting on W2s and 1099s, so no big rush.

But seriously... those of you who are getting $6K+... unless you had some extenuating circumstances in 2009, I'd seriously look at redoing your withholdings. That's $500 a MONTH you could be getting.

We are getting $6800 back this year. Last year I didn't work that much and hubby was off for 3 months so we are getting for the first time the child tax!!!!

We are taking $1500 of it and either going on a week "camping" trip to the gulf of mexico. Lounging around in a cabana, drinking margaritas and eating fresh ceviche!!!!! I can't wait!!!!!!

The rest will go into savings.

Yea, I haven't gotten the software to do ours either yet.. Like I said, I wait until the last minute haha.. I am such a procrastinator and will wait until the day they're due to file. I just put the money we get into savings and keep saving it.

SamG, yea I see your point on the $500 extra a month. It's fun to get it back all at once though. Kinda like a bonus check I guess. Fun to see a big amount you get back. That money is usually used for 2 or 3 vacations throughout the summer.

This year was different. I was out of work since Sept 1 on Short Term Disability and Wife was out of work since July. Plus we had our son in july. We also donated some items to the local science center and got 3k in donations. Add in our first year owning the house and paying 8k in interest did not hurt either :)
