Re: The modern day black friday

I think the thing I miss the most, though there are several, is that it used to be only die-hard Black Friday shoppers were out. The new ones and the ones that weren't up for it, might get in the way the first store or two, but after that, it was true shoppers, like myself, who were out for the &quo...

Re: Share your Black Friday 2017 experience here!

My BF was very successful, thought I didn't have much to get yesterday. Bought most everything earlier in the week from Kohl's and TRU. Sitting waiting on packages (some have arrived) and have $30 Kohls Cash to spend. TRU was okay, I got games I wanted, okay prices, same as anywhere else. Kohls was ...

Re: States most and least at risk for Black Friday violence

I think the data goes back to far. I'd be interested to see what the statistics are for the more recent nighttime openings. Back in 06, they were still early morning openings, and if I am not mistaken, most were not in the wee hours of the morning either. I think the risk is far greater now simply f...

Re: JCPenney Coupons?

As a math teacher, the odds of getting anything other than a 10 off 10, if they only go with these exact numbers is 1.25%. I typically don't hit our mall until almost last (way more stores on the way to the mall). But if you are starting early, or near a JCP, then it's worth a short to get one. I've...

Re: Ads we're still waiting on

What's your local paper price?

Typically, our Thanksgiving paper is the Sunday price, which is $2.00.

I was in the gas station last weekend and saw a sign that one local paper is going to be $5.00 on Thanksgiving day due to the size.

Re: Fingerlings Are Blue...

Fingerlings are blue, I think I'm due, To win a prize, Due to the cries, from the pitiful ads. When you don't need ipads, Or any other techy stuff, BF can be a little rough. Unless pjs are on your list, Or cheap towels you insist. But sheets with high thread counts, Will be charged on my accounts. I...

Re: 2017 Black Friday- How do you do it?

I've been BF shopping for years. Many people who don't typically shop on BF, have asked me for advice, including my children who are now grown. But lately, I have a hard time giving good advice now, because I'm still trying to figure things out myself. When the stores opened 9 - midnight, I could st...

Re: Strangest Black Friday Traditions & Strategies

I stayed in my car to the last minute, And a minute before Sears opened, joined the mad rush to get in This reminds me of one year. We were waiting (it was cold) in the car. There was not one person in line, but plenty in the cars. We were there maybe 15 minutes, still about an hour till opening. T...

Re: HOW do you shop on Black Friday?

I've still been tweaking my shopping plan as they must change. Once upon a time, my day went like this: Up at obscene hours on Thanksgiving day. Get turkey in (or have hubs up to do it). Grab a paper and head to Kmart and Boscovs. Hit Dollar General and Walgreens. Home by 10ish. Wrap, make dinner, e...

Re: The chip card: 2016 version of writing a check?

Depending on total and cashier's ability, cash should be the fastest option. However, it isn't the safest. I haven't shopped with cash for big ticket items in years. Hubs still does, but not me. I don't carry much more than $20 - $50 in cash ever. Plus, with chip cards, it's always the "Do I pu...

Re: To cart or not to cart...

Yeah, aisle blocking is horrible here. I have found that I can maneuver much better without one.

I think maybe I'll see if I can find a large bag/collapsible basket because I just can't move through the aisles.

With the night time openings, it is more crowded than ever before.

To cart or not to cart...

Typically, I don't use a cart. But, recently my BF shopping is typically 2 - 5 stores with many things (instead of an in-out after a few items to MANY stores), I'm not finding this is always possible. Plus there are the "BIG" items. Last year I got a bike for me and a friend got a bike too...

Re: HOW do you shop on Black Friday?

I start with a generalized list for each store. Noting all items I may want. When I get the ads, I go through them (I'm up cooking dinner early Thanksgiving morning anyway) and flag deals I want, looking very closely at them to see if I really want them. I compare all the items, deciding on prices, ...

Re: Which ads disappoint you the most?

I can honestly say this is the first year I was REALLY disappointed in all of them. The last few years I was pretty disappointed in most, but one or two always came through to make it worthwhile. Last year I was pretty disappointed, we went out for about 4 - 5 hours, hit all the stores we really wan...
