Walmart Lowers Shipping Threshold & Offers Free 2-Day Shipping on 2M+ Items

Today Walmart announced changes to the way they handle free shipping! There are a few different rules for this new policy, so let's dig right in.

Walmart will now offer free shipping on orders over $35. Over 2 million items across their website will be eligible for free 2-day shipping on orders over $35. If your item isn't eligible for free 2-day shipping, you'll still get free 3-5 day shipping on orders meeting the $35 minimum.

Finally, if your order has eligible 2-day shipping items, but is less than $35, you can pay $5.99 for 2-day shipping. Of course, you'll still be able to choose free in-store pickup if you'd rather get your purchases that way.

Items that are eligible for free 2-day shipping span tons of different categories, from baby and pets to household essentials, clothing, and beauty to name a few. You can use filters to search for only these items when shopping at Walmart.

This new policy means that Walmart's ShippingPass program has ended. All current ShippingPass members will receive a refund on their membership.

Walmart's updated shipping policy could give them an edge over Amazon. Amazon's free shipping threshold used to be $25, but back in 2013 they raised it to $35, and then again to $49 in 2016 -- effectively pushing customers towards an Amazon Prime membership. We're hoping this change motivates Amazon to up the ante a bit. As we always say, when stores try to outdo their competition, customers usually win.
