REI to Remain Closed on Black Friday

REI Closed on Black Friday 2015

For the past few years, a battle has smoldered between Thanksgiving traditionalists and big-box retailers. It feels like each November stores are either opening well before the turkey is done or after the sun is up and the world is awake on Black Friday. Long gone are the days of waking up from a food coma and bundling up at 3AM to stand in line and wait for your favorite store to welcome you inside.

The tug-of-war between merchants and traditional families has resulted in several retailers taking a stance when it comes to their Thanksgiving & Black Friday hours. One merchant who has never faltered, however, is REI. They've been closed on Thanksgiving since before it was cool, and this year they're taking it a step further. Today CEO Jerry Stritzke announced that REI will be closed on Black Friday 2015.

Instead of holding a Black Friday sale, REI will be giving their employees a full paid day off to "go outside". The same principle holds true for their website - you'll be able to shop online, but don't expect any deals or doorbusters.

What do you think? Will you be shopping early, opting for the traditionalist route, or forgoing Black Friday altogether? Here at BFAds HQ, we'll be avoiding the chilly Wisconsin weather while shopping online from our desks in between bringing you breaking news, price drops, and all of the Hottest Deals from around the Internet.
