REI + 275 Friends Closed on Black Friday 2016

REI + 275 Friends Closed on Black Friday 2016

REI announced last night that for the second year in a row they are choosing to #OptOutside rather than participate in Black Friday sales.

REI will be closed on both Thanksgiving and Black Friday this year. All 149 locations will be shuttered and over 12,000 employees will be given paid time off. In addition, over 275 national and local organizations are participating with them. Nonprofits and government agencies nationwide will offer support for the cause and offer activities to do on Black Friday.

We added REI to our list of stores that will be closed on Thanksgiving weeks ago, but this year the controversy surrounding "Grey Thursday" is more prevalent than ever. Over 275 organizations have joined REI in their #OptOutside campaign, but we are curious to see whether any other retailers will. You can check out our list of Thanksgiving and Black Friday store hours to see what REI's competitors are up to so far!

What do you think? Are you joining REI in their boycott of Black Friday? As Black Friday fanatics, you can probably guess what we'll be doing.

Thanks for Visiting and Tell Your Friends!
