We have seen quite a few different malls follow in Mall of America's footsteps including CBL Properties, which will be closing 72 of their malls. This seemed to be a trend as smaller malls picked it up, but Simon Properties is saying that they will be open. All of this is tending to lead to more confusion because even though the malls themselves are technically closed, they are still allowing their anchor stores to open. This means that Macy's is still able to open at 5PM and Kohl's at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
The Mall of America has announced that they will be closed on Thanksgiving!
A recent press release stated that they will be closed on Thanksgiving and open at 5AM on Black Friday. This allows the employees and staff of the nation's largest mall to enjoy time with their families. However, although the mall itself will be closed, they offered the option to individual stores to remain open. So while the movie theater and amusement park will be closed, it is possible that major stores such as Macy's and Best Buy could choose to stay open. As they said in the press release, "For those who do open, Mall of America will have security and other key personnel on duty on Thanksgiving Day to ensure smooth operations". To keep tabs on which stores might remain open, check out the Mall of America website.
If you're a fan of the Mall of America, don't fret. With over 520 stores inside the building, we are betting that some of them will choose to stay competitive and remain open. If not, there will be hundreds of other malls and stores in Minnesota where shoppers can score Black Friday deals -- minus the sales tax on shoes and clothing!
We've recently covered additional store closings including Staples, Gamestop, Nordstrom, Home Depot and Costco. If you want to keep up to date on the latest store hours and closings you can visit our Store Hours page which is updated with new information as soon as we have it!
