Modular Robotics MOSS Zombonitron 1600 Kit MOSS: Robotics inspired by natural systems.View larger The New MOSS Robot Construction System MOSS is a robot construction system from Modular Robotics. Each block is a different part of a robot and combining those blocks in different ways yields a multitudinous variety of robots. Think of them as building blocks for the 21st century; designed to help kids invent and build their own robotic creations. The goal of MOSS is to impart intuitive understanding of complex systems and design principles. Within the MOSS system, kids begin to build an understanding of mechanical construction, basic circuitry, kinematic motion, robotics, software integration, and programming. The MOSS Zombonitron 1600 Kit The Zombonitron 1600 includes 16 MOSS blocks and 56 Carbon Steel Spheres. The kit is powered by a rechargeable LiPo battery with an included Micro-USB cable. The Zombonitron 1600 kit includes an Extended Battery block, 2 Motors, a Light Sensor, a Proximity Sensor, 2 Corner blocks, 2 Wheels, a Long Flexy, a Hub, 4 Arch Braces, and a Short Brace. Get Started Building Robots! MOSS is remarkably intuitive. Color-coded faces indicate how each block works and, by snapping blocks together, kids create not only the physical body of the robot, but its behavior too. There's no programming required, the robot is "programmed" by how its blocks are put together. Once you understand the basic principles there is no limit to what you can create. Power or data are passed through an elegant single button contact, while ground is passed through the steel spheres. Magnetic Modules Connect Via Steel Spheres The steel spheres are not magnets! Over-molded magnets inside the corners of each block s ABS plastic shell provide connection points for inert steel spheres, bridging the gap between each block. The wonderful part of these spheres is that they create simple motion primitives like ball joints, hinges and rigid construction. These elements combine to create wonderful kinematic creations. The MOSS Extended Battery BlockView larger Lithium Polymer Battery Technology The MOSS Extended Battery block lasts for hours on a single charge and it includes a USB cable for easy charging from a computer or wall adapter. View larger Build a Zombonitron! Follow the included instructions to build a Zombonitron. This little critter uses the steel spheres as joints to make a crawling, surprisingly lifelike motion, and the Proximity Sensor causes it to back up when it detects a predator. Build this and hundreds of other robots with your Zombonitron 1600! Productive Play MOSS is more than an educational toy. It is a learning platform that helps kids see design problems in new ways and better understand complex systems. The hands on learning opportunities of MOSS are masked by the immersive fun of building and controlling your own robots! MOSS is Made in Boulder, CO, USA We make modular robotic construction systems for kids because we believe that toys shape the way that children think about the world. Modular Robotics is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, where we design, engineer and manufacture our robots. We are a spin-off from Carnegie Mellon University and are recipients of SBIR grant funding from the National Science Foundation. Modular Robotics designs, manufactures, and distributes innovative toy robot construction systems for children, adults, hobbyists, science centers, museums, and schools. Explore the Expanded MOSS Universe The Zombonitron 1600 Kit is just the beginning. When you're ready to expand, add a Bluetooth block to connect to your smartphone or build huge creations with the Exofabulatronixx 5200 kit. MOSS: We Come in Pieces.
