Hottest Holiday Video Games of 2019

Video games always seem to represent some of the best deals each and every Black Friday. With hit titles populating the pages of nearly every Black Friday ad, there are deals to be had for even the most modest of budgets. This year, as both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 enter their twilight year, with new consoles already on the horizon, there has been a bit of a slow down on the exclusives, while the newly refreshed Nintendo Switch continues to fire on all cylinders.

With choices seemingly endless, it can be hard to know where to start if you’re seeking great video game deals for your loved ones. For those shopping for a gamer that did not provide Santa with a wishlist, BFAds.net has compiled our picks for the best games of 2019, including titles just arriving on store shelves as well as our favorite budget picks!

Nintendo Switch

Pokémon Sword/Shield

Pokémon Sword/Shield
For decades now, Pokémon trainers around the world have wondered what a full-fledged console version of a main-line Pokémon game could be. Sure, we had Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, but those were merely remakes that were adapted to the Switch with a lower challenge level aimed at new and Pokémon Go players. When Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield for the Nintendo Switch land on store shelves, the wait will finally be over as the 8th generation of Pokémon marks the first home console outing for the series. Trainers will return to the Galar region to compete in the traditional Gym Challenges that culminate in the Champion Cup Tournament, filling their Pokédex with over 810 species of Pokémon!

Luigi’s Mansion 3 Luigi’s Mansion 3
Luigi’s Mansion started as a glorified tech demo that held such a beloved place in the hearts of Nintendo fans that Nintendo finally caved to demands with a sequel on 3DS back in 2013 as part of the “Year of Luigi.” Here in 2019, capping off the “Month of Luigi,” Luigi’s Mansion 3 is set to land on the Nintendo Switch on Halloween Day. Players will once again take the role of the other Mario brother, armed with his trusty ghost vacuum to rescue his friends who are trapped in a haunted, high-rise mansion with the aid of Goo-igi, a spooky doppelganger of Luigi made entirely of slime.

The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening
While critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild brought one of the most innovative Zelda games ever with its open world design, a return to a more traditional Zelda will be on shelves and wishlists this holiday season. The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening is a remaster and updated take on the Gameboy and Gameboy Color classic of the same name. Updated with beautiful 3D graphics that make the game appear to be played with toys through the most spectacular diorama ever created, players can once again travel to the island of Koholint to awaken the legendary Wind Fish.

A frequently discounted title is one of the best all-around games for the Nintendo Switch. Death Stranding

Death Stranding
Although the Fall 2019 release of Death Stranding is imminent, details on the game and even the gameplay is intentionally sparse. One of the most anticipated titles of the year, Death Stranding is the first new title from fabled Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, and stars The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus. Sure, to top the wishlist of any PlayStation 4 gamer, Death Stranding has gamers using a mix of action and stealth to, "reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society."

From Software, the developer best known for the punishingly difficult Dark Souls series, brings forth a new type of challenge in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In Sekiro, players take the role of Wolf, a lone shinobi who is seeking revenge against a clan of powerful samurai, using stealth and magic. While still a challenging third-person action title, the focus on exploration and unique boss battles where the player focuses on using their katana to strategically weaken their foe until they are off-balance enough to be open to a powerful attack makes this title a true departure from the Souls series.

Shenmue III Shenmue III
Shenmue was a landmark franchise when it was released on Dreamcast all the back in 1999. Although it did have a sequel, the story was never completed thanks to the Dreamcast’s and SEGA’s untimely demise and exit from home console business. This fall, 18 years after the release of Shenmue II, legendary creator Yu Suzuki is back to finish what he started with Shenmue III on PlayStation 4. Immediately following the events of the last game, players once again play the role of Ryo Hazuki who is traveling across late 80’s era Japan and China in search of the man who murdered his father.
