Hot Holiday Video Games 2017

Video games have been a Christmas staple for as long as they’ve been on the market. This year, with four different consoles on the market, each with an expansive library of hits, there will surely be endless choices for shoppers seeking great video game deals for their loved ones. For those shopping for a gamer that did not provide Santa with a wishlist, Bfads.net has compiled our picks for the best games of 2017, including console exclusives as well as multiplatform blockbusters!

Multiplatform

Middle Earth: Shadow of War

Middle Earth: Shadow of War – Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC - There are two aspects of Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor that stand out even now, two years after the game’s release. The first is the game’s standout “Nemesis” enemy system that takes average grunts that manage to defeat you and gives them a reputation among other enemies in the game, leveling themselves up and commanding their own squads of lesser orcs, taunting the player along the way. The second is the fact that in the two years since release, no one has really duplicated this system until now. Middle Earth: Shadow of War takes everything gamers loved about Shadow of Mordor and expands it, allowing players to assemble their own orc armies.

Sonic Mania Sonic Mania – Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC – While his Italian counterpart managed to evolve and move on to bigger and better things, Sonic the Hedgehog never truly found a modern day home. There have been a few bright moments sprinkled here and there, but by and large, the charm and fun that gamers loved about Sonic seemed lost in time. Unable to capture that blue lightning in a bottle in the modern era, SEGA turned to fans that had been upgrading and enhancing older Sonic games to share with other fans. The result is the first truly great Sonic the Hedgehog game since Sonic CD. Sonic Mania captures everything that gamers loved about Sonic the Hedgehog including the speed, the sprawling level design, unique boss battles, and gameplay that rewards multiple playthroughs and brings it to the modern era in one of the best 2D platformers in recent history, if not all time.

Wolfenstein 2 Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus – Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC - Developer MachineGames and Bethesda Softworks team up to bring you one of the most anticipated shooters of the year and seek to break some of the norms we've come to expect in big-budget first person shooters. The biggest difference in this direct sequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order is that the game ships without any multiplayer modes or content, as MachineGames wanted to focus all their development efforts on a compelling single player experience. Taking place in an alternate reality 1961 America in which the Second World War was won by the Nazis, players will fight as WW2 veteran BJ Blazkowitz to retake the United States from the Nazi regime.

Playstation 4 Exclusive

Horizon Zero Dawn & Frozen Wilds Expansion

Horizon Zero Dawn & Frozen Wilds Expansion – Famed Killzone developer Guerilla Games delivered one of the most enthralling open world adventures of this generation with Horizon Zero Dawn. Fighting for survival and discovery, Aloy relies on her archery and hunting abilities to fight against robots that have taken control of her world. This award-winning action-RPG becomes even more immense with this fall's Frozen Wilds expansion, which adds a northern wasteland for players to explore.

Gran Turismo Sport Gran Turismo Sport – Gran Turismo has long been a flagship franchise on Sony consoles, and in addition to being known as one of the best driving simulators, the arrival of a new Gran Turismo game traditionally brings a new apex of graphical standards for which all other racers aspire. In its first appearance on the Playstation 4 console, developer Polyphony Digital has once again lived up to the ever-growing expectations of the Gran Turismo franchise with Gran Turismo Sport, which delivers hyper-realistic driving mechanics coupled with glorious 4K photo-realistic graphics.

Xbox One Exclusive

Forza Motorsport 7

Forza Motorsport 7 – Commonly thought of as Microsoft’s Gran Tursimo by both fans and detractors, Forza Motorsport 7 will make history when it lands on store shelves this fall. The latest in the award winning racing simulator from Turn 10 Studios has always been revered for its massive assortment of vehicles and stellar graphics, but coupled with the Xbox One X, Forza 7 will be the first and only home console game running at full 4K HDR10 at 60fps . If you’ve got an Xbox One X and a 4K UHDTV this is one title not to be missed.

Cuphead Cuphead – Cuphead is a throwback in nearly every sense of the word. This 2D side scrolling downloadable title harkens back to the days of old, with punishing platforming action straight out of the 1980s, wrapped in a stunning graphical homage to 1930s animation. A beauty to behold and a challenge to complete, there are not many better ways to spend $19.99 for Xbox One owners

Nintendo Switch Exclusive

Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey - You’re not going to believe this, but Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach yet again, just in time for a new Nintendo console launch! This time, Mario is going back to his 3D roots, with a game that returns to the quasi-open world style fans will remember from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. This time, Mario can toss his hat to attack, use as a makeshift platform, or even possess enemies.

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild – One of the best video games of 2017 is one that should not be missed by any Nintendo Switch owner. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild takes everything fans know and love about Zelda and expands it, turning this time honored action-adventure series into a sprawling open-world adventure. The land of Hyrule is teeming with areas to explore, weapons to find, dungeons to crawl, and enemies to battle all done in a living, breathing open world that seems to never end regardless of which direction you turn.

Nintendo 3DS Exclusive

Metroid: Samus Returns

Metroid: Samus Returns - To call Metroid: Samus Returns a remake of the original Metroid II for Gameboy is to do a disservice to one of the best 3DS games of the year. The only thing familiar to those who enjoyed the monochrome original may be the map and the story elements, but everything else has been redesigned from top to bottom, with beautiful 2D/3D hybrid style graphics, new weapons and abilities, this title is one of the best pickups this fall or gamers on the go.

Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon – The last Pokemon game of this generation returns to the Alola region for an all new adventure with some never before seen Pokemon. A must-have for those who missed last year’s Sun & Moon and completionists alike, Ultra Sun and Moon brings new Z moves, Ultra Beasts, and the return of the Team Rocket.
