Thanksgiving has been turning into just another shopping day but we've learned that for the second year in a row Gamestop, Home Depot, Nordstrom and Costco will be closed. We've noticed a general outcry against "Grey Thursday" and these stores seem to agree.
REI seemed to start the trend last year by announcing that they would not be participating in Black Friday at all. Instead they offered their employees a paid day off to "go outside". Many were surprised to see that Gamestop was closed on Thanksgiving last year even though Best Buy was open. Gamestop stayed in the game by opening at midnight and this year they plan on opening their doors at 5AM on Black Friday.
Other stores keeping their doors closed on Thanksgiving day include BJ's, Lowe's, Patagonia, and Jo-An Fabrics. What all of these merchants offer online for their pre-Black Friday sales remains to be seen, but keep in mind that this doesn't necessarily that they won't be offering deals and sales on Thanksgiving.
We've already heard rumors of Kohl's opening at 6PM on Thanksgiving so if you enjoy shopping after time with family then you will still have that chance. What do you think? Will it become a trend this year to stay closed on Thanksgiving? Let us know in the comments below!
