Right out the gate, it can be rather confusing trying to figure out what camera suits your needs when
you aren’t even sure of the capabilities each type offers. Before we go any further, we’ll start with the
different types of cameras you can expect to see offered on Black Friday.
Ultra compacts - Ultra Compact cameras are tiny, often fitting into a pants pocket with ease. They tend to be fairly pricy
and don’t offer much in the way of features, but size is this type’s key selling point, especially if you’re
carrying more than just a set of keys in your pocket or purse.
Compacts - Compacts tend to be larger than ultra-compacts and are typically a bit cheaper. A compact camera still
may not offer as many features as the larger sized point and shoot options, but it keeps the size down.
These are the types of cameras you are most likely to see offered up as Black Friday deals (and even more
likely to see at a lower price year round).
Point and Shoot/Super Zoom - Point and shoots typically boast the most features you’ll find on cameras without interchangeable lenses. They tend to be too large to fit in your pocket, but that increased size in turn offers huge zooms, high
pixel counts and many features that you’d only find on a digital SLR. Prices range widely in this group –
a point and shoot without many features can be in the price range of a compact, for example. Adding a ton
of features, though, can put a camera’s price in the range of an entry level SLR.
