Black Friday 2018 Tablet Buying Guide

Black Friday 2018 Tablet Buying Guide

Tablets have become a Black Friday favorite thanks to the wide assortment of models, sizes, and prices that fit nearly any budget or need. This year, doorbuster deals from Apple, Samsung, and Amazon are available at nearly every retailer that carries these tablets, and thanks to retailers like Staples fighting the good fight to keep Black Friday on Friday, in many cases you’ll have two chances to score a new tablet this holiday.

Still, with dozens of deals spread across pages upon pages of ads from retailers across the country, it can be hard to decipher which tablet deals are worth your hard earned money, and that’s where comes in! Whether you’re after an iPad, a Galaxy Tablet, or a Fire Tablet, our Black Friday 2018 Tablet Buying Guide has got the deal for you!

Apple iPad

The company that started the tablet revolution may not have been successful at killing off the notebook PC but instead spawned an entire new category of tech that has become a Black Friday staple. Although we do see some great iPad doorbusters, there are no really great deals on an iPad Pro like we saw in 2017. In fact, the only iPad Pro featured in Black Friday ads from a nationwide retailer is a vague “save up to $150 on select models” on page 21 of the Best Buy ad. So if you’re in the market for an iPad Pro, keep an eye out to see what prices emerge from Best Buy when the sales start to go live.

iPad 6th Generation $80 off ($249 and Up) at Target

If you’re after a 6th generation iPad of the 32GB variety, the great news is that a $249 doorbuster price can be found at many major retailers, including Walmart and Costco. Target takes the prize here by taking $80 off the price of all 6th generation iPads across the board, so if you want a more premium version with larger storage, you can still get a doorbuster discount. Shoppers looking for a 128GB iPad specifically, however, might take their chances at Best Buy where they are discounting select 128GB models by $100.

iPad Mini 4 128GB $249.99 at Best Buy or Target

A two-way tie means shoppers can choose either Best Buy or Target as the place to be to find a doorbuster discount on an iPad Mini 4. Both stores have the iPad’s little bother at just $249.99, a $150 savings off of the everyday price.

Samsung Galaxy Tablet Picks

Although Samsung continued to be the first and somewhat only name in Android tablets in 2018, Google’s entry into the premium tablet line with the Pixel Slate means perhaps next year we may see some better competition on Android tablets. For the time being, Galaxy Tablets remain a great option for Black Friday shoppers looking for a new Android tablet this Black Friday, even if they’re effectively the only option.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 9.7” $399.99 at Best Buy

Shoppers wanting a premium Samsung Tablet at a discount have limited options this Black Friday, as Best Buy is the only nationwide retailer discounting the Galaxy Tab S3 from Samsung. For $100 off the everyday price, Best Buy is offering the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S3 with 9.7” HDR screen and S-Pen for just $399.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A $159.99 – Best Buy or Target

There are two options this Black Friday for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A, with both Target and Best Buy offering the identical price of $159.99, a $120 savings. Shoppers should note that this 10.1” tablet only has 16GB of built in storage, so consider picking the Sandisk 32GB microSD card on sale for just $8.99 if you’re at Best Buy. Speaking of microSD card, if you’re already a Costco member, they’ll have this tablet with a bonus 32GB microSD card for just $149.99 all week long.

Amazon Fire Tablets Picks

Before Amazon Fire Tablets came long, shopping for Black Friday deal on a tablet under $100 was like navigating a minefield. The ads were littered with low cost, low quality tablets that were underpowered and often made from questionable manufacturers. Now, Amazon rules the sub $100 category with their premium, feature-rich Amazon tablets that combine quality hardware with integrated Amazon services, making sub $100 tablets worth every penny and more. If you’re interested in a Fire Tablet and want to make sure you’ve got one under your tree, keep an eye on, since has traditionally waited until the ads have leaked and then matched the doorbuster prices of other retailers.

Amazon Fire HD 10 $99.99 at Target or Staples

Amazons largest and only full-sized tablet enjoys a full-sized doorbuster discount at both Target and Staples this Black Friday! A full $50 off the Amazon Fire HD 10 is the lowest price seen yet on the 10.1” tablet from Amazon, which features Dolby audio and Alexa hands-free voice control. Since Target opens Thanksgiving night and Staples doesn’t open their doors until 7am on Black Friday, you’ve got two chances to snag this doorbuster deal.

Amazon Fire HD 8 $49.99 at Best Buy or Staples

The Fire HD 8 is perfect for those who want an HD display but don’t necessarily want a full-sized tablet. Best Buy has this doorbuster deal, which enjoys a $30 discount at only $49.99. Shoppers should note that this deal is on the 16GB version of the Fire HD 8, so it might be a good idea to pick up a microSD card to expand the storage. As with the Fire HD 10 deal, you’ll have two chances at this doorbuster since the Staples Black Friday sale doesn’t begin until 7am Friday.

Amazon Fire 7 Kids$69.99 w/ $15 Kohl’s Cash

Kohl’s sneaks in a surprise victory here thanks to their fan-favorite Kohl’s cash promotion. While both Target and Staples will have the Fire 7 Kids tablet at a doorbuster price of only $69.99, Kohl’s is tossing in some extra value by including a $15 Kohl’s Cash bonus with purchase of this Amazon tablet made extra durable for the uncertain hands of children.

Final Thoughts

For anyone who is simply after the least expensive, bargain basement tablet and has their eye on the RCA Voyager III tablet from Walmart for $28.00 seen on page 5 of their Black Friday ad, you are probably better off spending an extra $1.99 and grabbing the Amazon Fire 7 tablet from Staples for $29.99 since the RCA tablet has a poor screen and abysmal reviews.
