Black Friday 2017 Tablet Buying Guide

Black Friday 2017 Tablet Buying Guide

Now that we've seen the price of tablets come down from the atmosphere since they first hit the market back with the original iPad in 2010, they have become a holiday favorite for gift-givers (and receivers) everywhere. With literally dozens of tablet deals on Black Friday to suit any need or budget, the unparalleled fun and convenience of a great tablet can be nestled away under nearly any tree this holiday. With so many tablet options, some are bound to be better than others, so we at have combed through every page of every Black Friday ad to bring you our top tablet picks in our Black Friday 2017 Tablet Buying Guide!

Apple iPad

The premier name in tablets and the standard by which all other tablets are judged belongs solely to Apple iPad. True to Apple style, each of the three flavors of iPad are near identical in operation, but differ just enough to each fill the needs of different shoppers. Like last year, regardless of which iPad you've got your eye on, there is a deal to be found on Black Friday.

Apple iPad 32GB $249.99 - Best Buy; Target; Walmart

Walmart should technically be the winner here, since they actually beat out both Best Buy and Target by 99 cents with their $249 flat doorbuster price on the Apple iPad 32GB. With all three of the biggest chains in the country offering the 9.7” Apple tablet for just shy of $250, shoppers have flexibility in choosing their shopping destination if a 32GB iPad is on their shopping list.

Apple iPad Pro 64GB $529.99 at Target

Target is offering a $120 doorbuster discount on iPad Pro models, with the lowest price starting at $529.99. Best Buy has the potential to offer a lower baseline price here, but the ambiguous wording of “up to $150 off” could mean that $150 discount is reserved for only the highest priced iPad Pros, which would be well above the price of Target's offering. If you've got an iPad Pro on your shopping list, you may want to keep an eye on Best Buy's printed ad to see if the fine print offers any details on this deal, but for now, plan to be at Target if you want the Pro at the lowest price possible.

Apple iPad Mini 4 128GB $274.99 at Best Buy

Best Buy is the only game in town if your Black Friday game is a discounted iPad Mini 4. While Target does advertise the iPad Mini 4, it's offered at the everyday retail price. Best Buy has the true deal here, knocking a whopping $125 dollars off the price of a 128GB iPad Mini 4. This is one of the best deals around this Black Friday, so be prepared to be at Best Buy at 5pm on Thanksgiving if you want to get your hands on this doorbuster.

Samsung Galaxy Tablet Picks

Since other manufacturers appear to be either unable or uninterested in making a serious play at the Android market, Samsung tablets have become the de facto tablet to own in the Android tablet space. Despite virtually having the market to themselves, Samsung still delivers same quality and innovation in their tablets that made their Galaxy phones so beloved. This year, nearly every model is represented on Black Friday, but sadly, the Galaxy Tab S3 is absent from the Black Friday festivities.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 32GB $279.99 at Best Buy

Although this isn't this year's flagship Tab S3, there is still plenty of performance and value in Best Buy's Black Friday only deal on the Samsung Galaxy S2. This 32GB, 9.7” tablet sees a $220 Black Friday discount when it goes on sale for only $279.99 this Thursday at 5pm, and is the only deal to be found on a Galaxy Tab S series Android tablet.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1” 16GB $179.99 w/ $20 Gift Card at Target

Samsung's middle-of-the-road Galaxy tablet is available at a doorbuster price of $179.99 at both Target and Staples this Black Friday, with Target narrowly taking the win here, as they often do, thanks to the inclusion of a $20 Target gift card to sweeten the deal. Take note, however, that Target's deal goes live Thursday at 6PM, while Staples does not open until 7AM Friday. If you miss out on Target's deal, you'll have time to make it over to Staples for a second chance at a $100 discount on the Galaxy Tab A.

Budget Tablet Picks

Budget tablets are a category that got a bit out of control a couple of years ago as tablet mania swept the nation. It was a category littered with poor-performing, off-brand devices with poor screens that had lackluster image quality and sometimes didn't feature multi-touch. Now that the mania has subsided, there remains mostly budget offerings from well known manufacturers that have respectable features and performance.

Amazon Fire HD 10 32GB $99.99 at Staples; Target

Hailed by Engadget as a “budget tablet that is actually good,” both Target and Staples share the honors here by offering the lowest Black Friday price on the Amazon Fire HD 10, which features a 10.1” screen, 32GB of storage, quad-core processor, and has voice operations powered by Alexa. Like with the Galaxy Tab A deal, there are two opportunities to nab this device. First, when Target opens at 6pm on Thanksgiving Day, and again when Staples opens at 7am on Black Friday.

Insignia 10.1” 32GB Android Tablet $69.99 at Best Buy

Shoppers wanting a budget 10-inch Android tablet but don't care for Amazon's easily subverted but still walled-off Fire OS can grab this 32GB Android tablet from Insignia for 30% off. Best Buy's house brand tablet is reasonably well-equipped for the price, with 1200x800 resolution screen, micro-sd expansion, and a quad-core processor.

Amazon Fire Kids 7 $69.99 at Target

Toys R Us has some less expensive kids tablets from nabi, but the real deal is at Target where the Amazon Fire Kids 7 tablet will be available for $69.99. While the nabi deals cost a bit less, the ease of use, IPS screen, no questions asked 2-year warranty, and 1 year of Amazon FreeTime for unlimited content make the Fire Kids 7 the kids tablet of choice on Black Friday.
