Black Friday 2016 Tablet Buying Guide

Black Friday 2016 Smart Phones Buying Guide

Since the debut of the iPad back in 2010, tablets have transformed our relationship with technology and how we stay connected. We use them for ultra-light on the go productivity, sometimes instead of a laptop. We use them for fun and entertainment on a plane or at the coffee shop instead of a newspaper. And we use them to annoy everyone standing behind us when we hold them up to take pictures or video at sporting events or gatherings instead of our camera phones.

No matter how you intend to use your tablet, the best time of year to pick one up is on Black Friday. This year there are dozens of models and sizes discounted at retailers nationwide and we’ve picked the top bargains on the most popular tablets as well as some stand-out budget picks for our Black Friday 2016 Tablet Buying Guide.

Samsung Galaxy Tablet Picks

Despite sharing a sizable chunk of the Android phone market with other tech giants like LG or Motorola, Samsung remains the dominant force in premium Android tablets. Unlike last year, there are no discounts on the flagship Tab S line of Galaxy tablets, although we do see a few retailers discounting 2016's new 10.1" Galaxy Tab A.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1" $199.99 at Best Buy

Best Buy tops retailers with their $100 discount on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1" tablet. This tablet features 16GB onboard storage and has optional parental controls so you can safely let your youngster play and learn on this 10.1" 1920x1200 Android 6.0 Marshmallow tablet. If you feel you'll need extra storage, Best Buy also has price cuts on Samsung 128GB, 64GB, and 32GB microsd cards for $36.99, $19.99, and $9.99, respectively.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8" $129.99 – Best Buy, Office Depot/Officemax, Staples

Three nationwide retailers have the same $60 discount on Samsung's answer to the iPad mini, the Galaxy Tab A 8" Android tablet. Office Depot/Office Max has a slight advantage here, since they are throwing in a free pair of ear buds with purchase of this 16GB tablet.

Apple iPad

Since they got off to a head start by sparking the tablet market, Apple has never relinquished that lead. iPads are the preeminent tablet, leading in both design and function, and with three lines of flagship tablets, Apple has got an iPad to fit any need. This year's leaked ads see the Black Friday debut of the iPad Pro, Apple's newest tablet that is their answer to the growing popularity of the Surface Pro.

Apple iPad Pro 9.7" - $150.00 Off - Starting at $449.99 – Target

Part of Targets most exciting Black Friday iPad promotion to date is their across the board price cuts of $150.99 on any and all iPad Pro models. This gives shoppers the flexibility to choose from any of Targets available configuration for iPad Pro while still getting a hefty discount. If for some reason Target doesn't sell the exact iPad Pro configuration you need, you still have a chance to save by heading to Best Buy, where they are offering a $125 discount on all iPad Pro models.

Apple iPad Air 2 9.7" - $125 Off - Starting at $274.99 – Best Buy, Target

Target and Best Buy come in at a dead heat in this race, although technically Target has the better deal since their discount is $125.99 versus Best Buy's flat $125 savings on all iPad Air 2 models. Whichever retailer you choose, you can enjoy that substantial discount on any configuration of iPad Air 2 models, but it might be a good idea to call your local stores and make sure they have the exact configuration you're looking for before standing in that cold line this Thanksgiving.

Apple iPad Mini 2 - $70.20 Off - Starting at $199.79 at Target

Target again makes our hotlist thanks to their sweeping price cuts across all iPad Mini 2 models, starting at $199.79 for the 32GB model. Target may be the only retailer offering this substantial discount on all iPad Mini 2s, but if you're after the 32GB model specifically, you can also find it at Walmart for $199.99.

Budget Picks
