Black Friday 2013 HDTV Buying Guide

28" and Smaller HDTVs

As the cost of HDTVs drop year after year, we see the tiny under 28" category begin to shrink each black Friday. In fact, the 19" set, formerly a bargain staple of Black Friday, is completely absent this year. With the bigger 32" brother prices dipping into the sub-$100 category, it's quite possible that this could be the last holiday where these sets are featured prominently.

Our Pick

Insignia 24" 1080p 60Hz LED HDTV (NS-24E40SNA14)
$79.99 at Best Buy

While it's not the low price leader in the category, we feel that some assurance is well worth the extra $5 you'll spend on this set when Best Buy opens their doors at 6pm on Thanksgiving. This set features 2 HDMI inputs (although one of those is shared with a DVI port), which we haven't before seen on Black Friday. This also tops Walmart's offering because of the set's 1080p resolution, an impressive spec given the size.

Runner Up

Element 23" 720p 60Hz LED HDTV
$75.00 at Walmart

Though this is $5 less than our winner, there's also a bit of mystery surrounding exactly what you'll be buying. As there is no model number listed, nor are there any specs (such as the number of HDMI ports) to analyze, this deal can be a bit of a wild card. Still, $75 for a new LED set is a bargain any way you look at it, so keep this set in mind if you strike out at Best Buy. Since this is part of Walmart's tiered Black Friday event, this can be your second chance when “Event 2" at Walmart kicks off at 8pm Thanksgiving Day.
