Black Friday 2013 HDTV Buying Guide

Introduction

Black Friday has returned, bringing with it a cornucopia of exciting doorbusters. In recent memory, no other doorbuster quite matches the hype and excitement that surrounds the low-price, high-definition flat panel televisions made available by numerous retailers. This year, we’ve combed through nearly 100 different models of backlit joy to bring you our HDTV best picks. Without a doubt, this is the year of the LED. In fact, of the 98 HDTV sets up for consideration in these categories, only 5 were not LED.

As in years past, we have limited our picks to nationwide retailers only, so if you live in the areas with regional stores such as hhgregg or Meijer, study those ads carefully as well to see if something nearby rivals what’s being offered around the country. We’ve also excluded any offerings from wholesale clubs who have annual fees, as it would be extremely disappointing and a bit unfair for our readers to cough up $50 for a membership and wind up going home empty handed if they are unable to score their treasured television set.

As always, if any of the terminology or techno babble confuses you, be sure to read our What to look for in an HDTV article, where we explain what all those bells and whistles mean and whether or not you should care.

Without further ado, let’s dive in to the electric glow of the beloved HDTV.
