2012 Video Game Black Friday Buying Guide

Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 shows no signs of slowing down even though it's entering seven years on the market. The Xbox Live service and Xbox 360 dashboard recently received an overhaul to match the Windows 8 metro UI theme, and Halo 4 had one of the biggest video game launches of 2012. Combine this with the steady stream of Kinect-enabled titles over the past year, and buyers have plenty of options to choose from this Black Friday.

Our Pick
Xbox 360 holiday bundles have become a winter tradition, and Best Buy once again undercuts the competition by offering this package for $199, a full $50 off MSRP. This year's bundle includes a black 250GB Xbox 360 slim console with wireless controller and two hit games. Forza Motorsport 4 is Microsoft's critically acclaimed racing simulator and is included as a pack-in game. You'll also receive a voucher for a downloadable copy of one of last year's biggest hit, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Runner Up
If you're looking for a more family-friendly console package this year, you can't go wrong with Microsoft's other holiday bundle. The Xbox 360 Kinect Bundle includes a 4GB slim console, wireless controller and the Xbox 360's exclusive Kinect sensor, along with the games Kinect Adventures and Kinect Disneyland Adventures. Target has the lowest Black Friday price on this particular bundle, which is available for $199.

Honorable Mention
The lowest cost of entry into the Xbox 360 world comes from Wal-Mart's $149 bundle, which includes a white 4GB Xbox 360 Slim console with wireless controller. Wal-Mart sweetens the pot by including a Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure starter pack with this console, making it a great option if you're shopping for a child. However, buyers should note that this Skylanders game is not compatible with the Skylanders Giants branded figures seen in just about every video game advertisement this year.

Xbox 360 Exclusive Titles
Halo 4 is the latest installment in the wildly popular (and critically-acclaimed) Halo series, and not a single retailer has it at a discounted price. If this is a must-have title for you, Target is your best option this Black Friday, as they are throwing in a $20 gift card with purchase. Also, sandwiched in between a stack of budget titles in the Wal-Mart advertisement is a great bargain on Forza Horizon. At only $15, it offers $45 in savings for the hit racing title.
