2012 TV Black Friday Buying Guide

19” to 24”

Even the battle for the smallest TV sets is being fought on a larger scale this Black Friday. Eight total entries from four major retailers are getting in on the action.

Wal-Mart is the low-price leader this year with their $84 Orion 24” HDTV. However, like a year ago, their lowest price HDTV is shrouded in mystery. Without enough specs to make an informed decision, they didn’t earn our pick, as they have been known in the past to feature low-cost sets without HDMI ports.

Seiki 24” 1080p LED HDTV
  • Model #: SE242TS
  • Inputs: 2 HDMI, 1 Component, 1 Composite, VGA
  • Refresh Rate: 60Hz
$88.00

How much is a sure bet worth to you? Hopefully at least four bucks, because Kmart takes our top pick in this category with their 24” Seiki HDTV for $88.00, only $4 than Wal-Mart’s mystery Orion set. If peace of mind isn’t enough, this HDTV is also a 1080p set, beating Wal-Mart’s 720p offering.

Note, this is a Thanksgiving Day price, so if you want to get your hands on it, you’ll have to gobble up that turkey fast – Kmart will be selling this set Thursday at 8pm.

Apex 24” 1080p LED HDTV
  • Model #: LE2412
  • Inputs: 2 HDMI, 1 Component, 1 Composite
  • Refresh Rate: 60Hz
$149.99

Radio Shack rounds out our honorable mention this year with their Apex 24” LED HDTV for $149.99. There’s an interesting savings opportunity here since Radio Shack is offering an additional Black Friday promotion. For every $50 spent on Black Friday, you’ll get a $10 coupon by email, meaning there’s an extra $20 in savings to be found with this set. Add the 6ft HDMI cable for $9.99 and get another $10 back for $30 in savings on this deal. Since Radio Shack doesn’t open until 6am, this is a great option for those who strike out on our first two picks.
