Store Hours Extended for Last Minute Shopping

Last Minute Christmas Shopping With only 26 days from Thanksgiving to Christmas, retailers are losing out on 6 full days of potential sales compared to previous years. Combined that with nation-wide ice storms and snowfalls it has made it hard this year for last minute shoppers to fill out their lists. To try and make up for lost time, some stores are pulling out all stops and participating in what they're calling "marathon hours", keeping their doors open this weekend straight through Christmas Eve.

The pioneer of this new trend was Toys R Us. Their Times Square store has been open since December 1st. Beginning at 6AM Saturday the 21st, Toys R Us stores nationwide will open and remain open until 9PM Christmas Eve.

Not to be outdone, Kohl's stores will be open for an unprecedented 108 hours, around the clock until 6PM on Christmas Eve. Some stores feature digital kiosks where customers have an expanded assortment of colors, sizes and styles. Items ordered from the kiosks receive free standard shipping in the US. Kohl's will also be offering free gift boxes.

Kmart stores are open round the clock until 10PM Christmas Eve. It's sister store Sears, will be open from 8AM each day until midnight, with the exception of Christmas Eve (6PM).

Target is offering discounts of up to 60 percent, and has extended its in-store pickup service for online orders to 2 p.m. Dec. 24. plans on its stores to be open on Christmas Eve from 7AM to either 9 or 10PM.

Macy's began testing its 24-hour strategy in 2006, but it has made tweaks this year. Most Macy's locations were open for 48 hours straight during the final two days before Christmas last year. But this year, 37 of Macy's 800 stores will be open for 107 hours from 7 a.m. on Friday to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Store hours may vary by location so be sure to call your local store for hours.
